The Bindery

Once a fully functional book binding facility, now a place where Milwaukee's  literary artists create, collaborate, and display their work.

The Bindery preserves Milwaukee's history while creating history all at the same time. While designing the interiors and built-in elements, the focus was on using materials and finishes that would compliment the original book binding machinery while also standing apart from it. Together, these details create an exciting contrast between new and old. Not only does the bindery bring energy to the Bayview neighborhood, it was so well received that it won the 2021 Mayor’s Design Awards in the Small Gems category.
